Coker Men's Track & Field Picked to Finish Seventh at SAC Championship

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's track and field team was picked to finish seventh in the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the league office announced today.

Queens, the defending conference champions, was atop the preseason poll. The Cobras finished eighth in last season's SAC championships and have had a solid spring season thus far. The Cobras are also ranked 11th in the Southeast region according to U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)

According to Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS), the Cobras have members ranked in the top-10 of South Atlantic Conference's performance list in 14 of the 18 events.

Malik Tarbell ranks sixth in the men's 100-meter dash, with a time of 11.08, which he posted at the Lenoir-Rhyne PowerSox Invitational.

Tarbell and Jarrell Mumford rank sixth and eighth in the men's 200-meter. Tarbell's time of 22.56 came at the Battle of the Beaches, while Mumford's time of 22.76 also came at the Battle of the Beaches.

Ryan Archibold's time of 50.53 in the 400-meter has him ranked third on the SAC performance list. He ran that time at the Coach O Coastal Carolina University Invitational. Mumford also made a splash in the 400-meter rankings, coming in with the sixth best time at 50.69.

In the 800-meter, James Gregory ranks seventh, while Razzel Kiplaget ranks eighth. Their times of 2:00.44 and 2:01.04 came at the Powersox Invitational.

Jacob Chebii leads Coker in the distance runs, ranking second in the SAC's 10,000-meter performance list. His time of 34:07.98 came at the Coach O Coastal Carolina Invitational.

In the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles, the Cobras have a combined eight runners inside the top-10. Naim Fareed, Paul Taylor II and Derrian Moreau rank four, five and six in the 110-meter hurdles. Fareed ran a time of 15.18 at the Battle of Beaches, Taylor's time of 15.61 came at the Coach O Coastal Carolina Invite and Moreau's top performance came at Coastal Carolina, where he ran a time of 15.88.

Fareed ranks first in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 54.41, which he ran at Coastal Carolina. Taylor is right on his heels, as his time of 56 seconds is second on the performance list. Anthony Clontz is fourth, with a time of 57.87, Caleb Nesbitt ranks eighth and Moreau rounds things out in 10th place.

Luke Elliot's time of 11:08.54 in the 3000-meter steeplechase ranks seventh in the conference list.

The Cobras rank second and third in the 4x 400-meter relay and 4x 100-meter relay, with times of 3:26.59 and 43.36.

Tarbell and Nesbitt rank eighth and tenth in the long jump. Tarbell's top distance of 6.12 meters came at Coastal Carolina, while Nesbitt's leap of six meters came at Lenoir-Rhyne.

Attiyyah Shakir and Demetrius Davis rank ninth and tenth in the triple jump. Shakir's distance of 11.96 meters and Davis's distance of 11.15 meters came at the Battle of the Beaches.

Brandon Campbell rounds things out for the Navy and Gold, ranking ninth in the shot put and hammer throw. In the shot put, his distance of 11.29 meters came at the Braves Track Classic, while his hammer throw distance of 24.88 meters came at the Battle of the Beaches.

The Cobras will be back in action on Friday (Mar. 25) when they travel to the Adidas Winthrop Invitational.
