Cross Country to Take on Coastal Carolina Invitational Friday

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker men's and women's cross country teams will run at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Friday (Sept. 9). This will be the second race of the year for the men while the women will run their first of the season.

The Cobra men finished fourth as a team back on Sept. 3 at the Palmetto State CC Festival in Columbia. Brandon Mullins led the charge finishing second in 16:51. Luke Elliott finished 20th in 18:50, while William Mosley finished 27th (19:50) in his cross country debut. Jordan Bishop finished out the Top 30 for the Cobras in 29th place in 20:08. Xavier Murray (33rd, 20:39), Jacob Maldonado (35th, 20:54), Brandon Gambrell (39th, 22:43) and Kyle Baker (41t, 23:45) rounded out Coker's runners for the day. 

This coming weekend, Coker's lineup will feature some faces making their 2016 debuts in Jacob Chebii and Razzel Kiplaget. Chebii made great contributions during his freshman season, running in six of seven races for Coker. He won both the USC Open (Sept. 23, 10:11) and the FMU Invitational (Oct. 16, 16:02). Chebii finished in the top-30 in four of his six races. Kiplaget ran in four races in his rookie campaign. His best finish came at the FMU Invitational (Oct. 16) where he finished 10th with a time of 17:38.

Five Cobras will take the course on the women's side in Darroneshia Lott, Breanna Sullivan, Tiffany Taylor, Angeline Flores and Karley Weiner. Lott is coming off a redshirt season, while Sullivan ran in five races in her rookie campaign, notching one top-30 finish. She took 13th at the CIU Invitational (Sept. 5) with a time of 22:54. Flores, Taylor and Weiner will all make their debuts on the cross country course for Coker this weekend, Weiner has run track for the navy and gold for the past two years.

The race will be run at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. and is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start.
