Cobras Sweep Coker Duals

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker wrestling team went 4-0 in its competition during the Coker Duals on Friday (Jan. 8). The Cobras did not surrender double-digit points to any opponent on the day.

The Cobras first action came in the form of a 49-3 win over Spartanburg Methodist. Curtis Harris got the scoring started for Coker with a win by fall in 4:06 at 141, while Jamal Lackey picked up a 9-3 decision win at 165. Derek Rothermel (174) won by major 11-0 and Luis Peguero (184) won by fall just 1:32. 

Coker would win the next match in equally decisive fashion beating Southeastern 39-7. Charlie Huff (125) won by fall in just 1:25, while Rashad Cunningham won by decision 6-2 at 149. Shabo Gorial (157) recorded a 19-4 tech fall win while Derek Rothermel took just 41 seconds to win by fall at 165. Derrick Booth (174) gutted out a 3-2 decision win while Luis Peguero won 9-0 for a major decision. John Allen Griswold (197) and Austin Akins (285) recorded wins by forfeit.

The Cobras would go on to defeat Shorter 37-9. Derrick Nelson recorded a 18-0 win by tech fall at 133, while RaSean McArthur picked up a win by fall in just 1:38.  Jordon Tague (149) continued the Cobras streak, winning by fall in 3:14, while Shabo Gorial picked up an impressive 34-15 tech fall win at 157. Derrick Booth picked up a 16-3 major decision at 174 followed by a Peguero 16-0 tech fall at 184.

Coker's day ended with a 46-3 win over Greensboro. RaSean McArthur (141) won by major 17-6, while Rashad Cunningham won by fall at the 4:06 mark. The day ended with three pins for Coker. Derrick Booth at 174 (1:24), John Allen Griswold at 197 (2:02) and Tyvon Leacock at 285 (1:28) all recorded wins by fall. 

The Cobras hit the mat again on next Wednesday (Jan. 20) when they travel to Limestone for an ECAC showdown. The action begins at 7:00 p.m.
