Cobras Ready for Coker Duals

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker wrestling team is set to host the Coker Duals on Friday (Jan. 8). Video feed of all Coker matches will be available at www.cokercobras.com while live stats for all six mats will be available at www.trackwrestling.com. The other teams competing are Belmont Abbey, Brewton-Parker, Emmanuel, Greensboro, King, Limestone, Shorter, Southeastern, Spartanburg Methodist and UNC Pembroke. The Cobras last action came in the form of a 25-15 loss at No. 18 ECAC foe Newberry on Jan. 2. Derrick Nelson continued his dominance on the mat with his seventh pin of the season at 133-pounds. Jordon Tague had a solid12-7 decision at 149-pounds, and Shabo Gorial picked up an 8-2 decision at the 157-pound weight class.  Derrick Booth earned a 3-1 decision at the 174-pound division to round out the Coker victories. 

Belmont Abbey comes into the event with a 4-5 overall record and an 0-3 mark in the ECAC. The Cobras defeated the Crusaders 35-6 in Hartsville back on Dec. 2.

Brewton-Parker faced the Cobras at the Newberry Duals back on Dec. 13. Coker shut out the Barons 48-0 in the event.

Emmanuel comes into the event with a 2-0 mark in dual matches. The Cobras have never faced the Lions. 

Greensboro comes into the duals with a 4-7 record on the year. Coker has never faced Greensboro in a dual match.

King has a 0-1 record in dual matches this year, dropping their lone dual to Emmanuel 29-17.  The Cobras last faced the Tornado in 2013-14 when Coker was victorious 23-15. 

Limestone comes into the event with a 3-2 overall record, having last faced Coker in 2014-15, with the Cobras winning 39-0.

Shorter has not wrestled a dual match yet this season, competing in several tournaments. Coker has never faced Shorter. 

Southeastern comes into the event with an 8-5 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the Mid-South Conference.

Spartanburg Methodist comes in to the event with an 0-7 record in dual matches. Coker defeated the Pioneers 43-6 at the Newberry Duals back on Dec. 13. 

UNC Pembroke comes into the contest with a 6-3 mark in dual matches and a 1-0 record in the ECAC. The Braves last took on the Cobras last season with the Braves winning 20-15.

The wrestling begins at 10:00 a.m. at the DeLoach Center. Tickets for the match are $5 for adults, and $3 for students. Coker faculty, staff and students receive free admission with ID.
