Coker Cross Country Places 20th and 22nd at NCAA Southeast Regionals

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Coker College men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their 2014 season on Saturday (Nov. 22) with 20th (men) and 22nd  (women) place finishes at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet in Montevallo, Ala.

The men were led by senior Dylan Bates who finished in 62nd place individually with a 10k time of 35:03. Freshman Noah Cook and junior Nick Mascardo were not far behind with times of 35:52 and 35:58 landing them spots inside the top 100. Sophomore James Gregory was next crossing the finish line with a time of 37:14. Freshman Peter Kemboi rounded out the men's squad with a time of 42:14.

The ladies were once again led by freshman All-SAC honorable mention team recipient Shauntel Smullen who finished in 28th position individually after a 6k time of 23:47. Smullen successfully finished inside the top 30 in every race this season. Next was sophomore Mercy Muhuhu who ran a time of 25:49. Junior Vanessa Pina and senior Kirsten Sanders crossed the finish line at 27:24 and 27:25, respectively. Freshman Lisa Foster and junior Naomi Watson rounded out the ladies team running times of 27:32 and 27:33, respectively.

This was the final meet of the 2014 season for both teams. The women finished the season with a win, a runner-up and a third place finish. The men notched two runner-up finishes and a fourth place finish.
