Coker Wrestling Set to Host Super Region Duals

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker wrestling team will host the Super Region Duals this Friday (Jan. 29) and Saturday (Jan. 30). Video of the Coker matches will be available on www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras will welcome Anderson, Ashland, Belmont Abbey, Emmanuel, Findlay, King, Kutztown, Limestone, Newberry, Tiffin and UNC Pembroke. 

Coker will face King Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and Ashland at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, the navy and yellow will grapple with Emmanuel at 11:00 a.m., Tiffin at 1:00 p.m. and Anderson at 3:00 p.m.

Anderson comes into the event with a 1-12 record in dual matches. Last season, (Feb. 4), the Cobras defeated the Trojans 24-15 in a dual match. The Cobras travel to Anderson for a dual match on Feb. 10.

The Ashland Eagles have a 2-4 record in duals on the season and are ranked No. 20 in the country. The Cobras have never faced the Eagles in a dual match. 

Belmont Abbey comes into the event at 9-6 in dual matches and 2-3 in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Crusaders fell to Coker back on Dec. 2 35-6.

Emmanuel is 9-3 in duals on the year and 1-2 in the ECAC. Coker has never faced Emmanuel in a dual match. 

Findlay comes into the event at 2-4 in duals on the year. The Oilers defeated the Cobras at last year's Super Region Duals by a score of 27-15.

King comes into the event with a 3-2 mark in duals and an 0-2 mark in ECAC competition. The Cobras competed at the King Open back on Nov. 22, 2015 where nine wrestlers placed in their respective weight classes. Coker last faced King in a dual in 2014-15 (Jan. 9) and won 42-3. 

Kutztown comes into the weekend with a 6-4 record in duals and a 1-3 mark in PSAC competition. The Cobras have never faced the Golden Bears.

Limestone comes into the event with an 8-3 overall mark and a 3-1 mark in ECAC competition. The Cobras defeated the Saints back on Jan. 20 in a thrilling 17-16 dual match. 

Newberry comes into the event with a 9-2 overall mark and a 1-0 record in the ECAC. The Wolves defeated Coker back on Jan. 2 25-15.

Tiffin comes into the event ranked No. 12 in the country with a 2-6 record in dual matches. Coker last faced Tiffin at the Super Region Duals in 2013-14 where the Cobras were victorious 34-15.

UNC Pembroke comes into the duals with a 10-3 overall record and a 2-0 mark in ECAC competition. The Cobras face the Braves in a dual match on Feb. 4 in Hartsville.

The action begins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday at the DeLoach Center. The wrestling will pick up at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
