Women's Basketball Announces 2023/24 Newcomers

The Coker women's basketball team welcomed a group of talented newcomers for the upcoming season. One of these newcomers is Tahleea Heyward, a 5'4 guard from Beaufort, SC. Heyward has an impressive high school career, earning the MVP title twice and being named Player of the Year. She recorded a career-high of 36 points and reached the 1,000-point milestone. Heyward also received recognition as an All-Region player.

Joining Heyward in the backcourt is Jade Roberts, a 5'9 guard from Ashburn, VA. Roberts transferred from Wilmington University, where she had a successful sophomore season. Starting all 26 games, she averaged 34.3 minutes, 8.5 points, and 5.4 rebounds per game. Roberts achieved a career-high of 16 points and was named to the CACC All-Academic Team twice, boasting an impressive 3.71 GPA. In her freshman season, she appeared in 21 games, starting 19, and averaged 31.3 minutes and 7.6 points per game. She showcased her versatility with a career-high 10 assists in a single game.

Another addition to the team is Janay Legagneur, a 6'3 forward from Valley Stream, NY. Legagneur played at Monroe College, where she was named MVP, Conference Player of the Year, and garnered All-American honors. She reached the 1,000-point milestone in high school and earned numerous accolades, including the Mayor's Award and recognition as one of the top 100 Long Island girls' basketball players.

Ashley Fowler, a 5'9 guard from Charlotte, NC, brings a winning mentality to the team, having won four conference championships and a state championship in her high school career at Cannon School. She was also a two-time All-Conference selection in the NCISAA Independent schools.

Kamari Thompson, a 6'0 forward from Greenville, SC, is a decorated player with multiple All-State, All-Region, and All-Upstate Team selections. She has scored over 1,000 career points and grabbed over 1,000 career rebounds. Thompson also received recognition as a Carolinas Classic NG-SC All-Star player.

Dasia Ferguson, a 5'9 guard from Roebuck, SC, was named the Break Out Player for Dorman High School in the 2021-2022 season. She was also selected for the All-Region team and the All-Tournament team.

Lastly, Sara Aumer, a 6'4 forward from Connellsville, PA, joins the team after attending Harcum College. In high school, Aumer earned First Team All-Conference honors and holds the school record for the highest field goal percentage.

With the addition of these talented newcomers, the Coker women's basketball team is looking forward to a successful season ahead.
