Cobras Take Sixth At SAC Championships; Mullins, McElveen Jr. and 4 x 100 Team Set School Records

HICKORY, N.C. – The Coker College men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championships on Saturday (Apr. 15). The Cobras finished with 48 team points, finishing in sixth place overall.

In the 800-meter run, Brandon Mullins finished runner-up, setting a new school record with a time of 1:53.58. Razzel Kiplaget finished sixth in the same event, running a time of 1:57.41.

After breaking the 200-meter record in the preliminary round on Friday, Tony McElveen Jr. rebroke his own record on Saturday in the 200-meter finals, running a time of 21.87 seconds, finishing fifth in the event. In the finals of the 100-meter dash, McElveen Jr. finished in fourth, running a time of 10.98 seconds.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Tyriek Sampson ran a time of 55.73 seconds, finishing in second place in the event.

In the 4 x 100-meter relay, the team of McElveen Jr. Malik Tarbell, Kamiam McClain and Tyriek Sampson finished in third place, running a school record time of 42.41 seconds.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Derrian Moreau finished in fourth, running a time of 15.50 seconds.
