Cobras Top North Greenville with 3-0 Sweep

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team topped the visiting North Greenville Crusaders with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-19) sweep Saturday (Feb. 4) afternoon in the DeLoach Center.

The Cobras trailed North Greenville 11-13 in the first set when four consecutive points gave Coker a 14-13 advantage. Kills by Sanjae Holloway and Devion Whetstone helped string together the four-point scoring streak. The Navy and Gold slowly built their lead before Sanjae Holloway added the final kill for the first set victory.

In the second frame of play, Coker and North Greenville exchanged blows until the Cobras held a slight 22-21 lead. Next, Kills from Sanjae Holloway and Luca Berger set up the set point for Coker, which was tallied off a service error committed by the Crusaders.

Finally, the third set of action had the Cobras taking a comfortable 25-19 victory. Coker's largest lead of the match came during the third set when they held a dominating 21-14 advantage. The Cobras held on to their large lead until Stephen Porras notched the final point of the set and match off of a powerful kill.

Sanjae Holloway led the Cobras offensively with a season-best 11 kills. On the defensive end of the ball, Gary Baker collected nine digs and Stephen Porras had a team-best two total blocks.

The Cobras will be back in action Tuesday, Feb. 7 when they host Erskine for a 7 p.m. match.
