Cobras Take on Pair of Crusaders in End of Week Matches

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team will take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey on Friday (Feb. 3) at 7 p.m. and the Crusaders of North Greenville on Saturday (Feb. 4) at 3 p.m. Video and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras head into the matches sporting a 3-1 overall record with two of their three victories coming against both squads earlier this season. On Jan. 20, the Navy and Gold cruised past Belmont Abbey with a 3-0 sweep. Joao Victor Santos led the way offensively for Coker with 12 kills. Devion Whetstone contributed on the offensive end as well with eight kills and a team-high .778 kill percentage.

Next, the Cobras defeated North Greenville on Jan. 21 by a 3-1 final score. Joao Victor Santos continued his stellar 2017 campaign with a team-high 16 kills, while Jackson Gilbert laid down nine kills during the match.

In addition to leading Coker offensively, Santos has earned his way into the top five in two statistical categories in the nation. The sophomore outside attacker is fourth in the nation in kills per set with 4.21 and third in the nation in points per set averaging 5.11.

The Belmont Abbey Crusaders head into Friday's matchup with a 1-4 overall record with their lone victory coming against Lees-McRae (3-1). Liam Maxwell is the top offensive threat for Belmont Abbey with a team-high 45 kills.

The North Greenville Crusaders come into Saturday's contest with a 3-6 overall record with victories over Erskine (3-0), Emmanuel (3-2), and Limestone (3-2). Aaron Campbell leads the charge offensively for North Greenville with a team-leading 67 kills.

Tickets for each game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
