Cobras Late Run Falls Short Against Wingate

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras dropped a South Atlantic Conference match to the regionally ranked No. 8 Wingate Bulldogs, 4-2, on Wednesday (Oct. 9) in men's soccer action.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early in the first half with three unanswered goals. They tacked on another goal in the opening minutes of the second half, taking a 4-0 lead.

The Cobras made a late run, breaking the shutout in the 62nd minute with a goal from Jordan Snell. The junior midfielder netted his first goal of the season when he took a pass from Daniel Jackson and slid it past the Wingate keeper to make it a 4-1 game.

Jackson then cut the Bulldog lead in half when he scored his team leading eighth goal of the season in the 85th minute of the game with an assist from Matt Taylor.

An intense and physical match from start to finish, the Cobras and the Bulldogs combined for 26 fouls.

Mark Nankervis and Kyndle Cobb combined for four saves for the Cobras.

The Cobras will return to the pitch for another SAC match on Saturday (Oct. 12) at Mars Hill. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
