Cobras Prevail Over Visiting Bears

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's volleyball team prevailed over the visiting Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday (Oct. 1) afternoon 3-1.

The Cobras displayed their resilience throughout the match by winning three sets decided by four points or less. The first set of play was a back and forth battle with Coker edging Lenoir-Rhyne 25-23.

Coker jumped out to an early lead during the first frame of play by notching the first four points off of two Christen Bragg service aces and two errors committed by the Bears. The Cobras were able to keep their distance from Lenoir-Rhyne and hold on for the first set victory.

During the second set, the Cobras once again grinded out a 25-23 victory. Coker started the second set fast by tallying eight out of the first nine points scored in the frame.

Madison Bingle, Taylor du Bray, and Alexis Berles were important contributors during the run by recording kills. Next, the Cobras fell in the third set, but responded in the fourth and deciding set with a 25-17 victory.

Leading 20-17 in the final frame of play, Coker sealed their match victory with five consecutive points. Madison Bingle used a kill and Rachel Waters collected a service ace to highlight the five-point scoring streak.

Bethany Prochnow led the Cobras offensively with 13 kills. On the defensive side of the ball, Kara Overholt collected 36 digs and Bethany Prochnow notched five total blocks.
