Cobras Fall to Trojans in Four

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's volleyball team dropped a South Atlantic Conference contest 3-1 to the visiting Anderson University Trojans on Thursday (Sept. 8) evening.

The opening two sets were back and fourth with neither team gaining a substantial advantage throughout. However, the Trojans narrowly won both sets, the first by a score of 26-24 and the second set 25-23.

The Cobras began to mount their comeback in the third set, responding with a 25-19 win to force a fourth set.

In the fourth set, Coker fell behind early 15-7, however the Cobras had their sights set on a fifth set, tightening the match to a just a two-point deficit at 22-20. The Trojans responded with three straights points to close out the set; winning it 25-20 and taking home the road win by a score of 3-1.

Christen Bragg led the way, notching a near triple-double. Bragg finished with 22 assists, 11 kills and nine digs. Bethany Prochnow collected nine kills and six total blocks. Madison Bingle and Megan Hardy finished with sevens kills apiece, while Greysen Newberry and Alexis Berles belted five kills each.

The Cobras will have little time off, as they take on Chowan and Converse in tri-match on Friday (Sept. 9). Coker will face Chowan at 3 p.m. and Converse 7 p.m.
