McMichael Brings Home a New Coker Hammer Throw Record

COLUMBIA, S.C.- Striding through the wind and rain, the Coker College women's track and field team used split squads and pushed through at the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C. and at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational in Charlotte, N.C. Friday and Saturday, April 6-7. 

Kaylah Ruff and Deonzha Jackson ran in the 100-meter preliminaries and finished in times of 14.76 and 15.17 seconds respectively. Ruff's mark ties her for the second-fasted time for the Navy and Gold.

Meanwhile, Tamara McMichael, Erin Chan, and Caterra Barkins took their talents to compete in the Johnson C. Smith Invitational. McMichael brought home a new Coker record in the hammer throw with a distance of 114' 6", finishing sixth overall in the event. Chan and Barkins placed eighth and ninth overall respectively. Chan's distance of 101' 10" put her second all-time at Coker, while Barkins' toss of 99' 10" ties her for third.

Barkins threw in the discus event as well, claiming the second-best mark at Coker with a distance of 105' 4" placing fifth overall.

McMichael also competed in the javelin throw, finishing sixth overall with a throw of 103' 1", the third-best mark at Coker.

The Cobras will be in back in action on Friday and Saturday April 13-14 at the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. Results from the event can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.
