Cobras Prepared for Midwest Super Regional Championships

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College wrestling team is prepared to begin post season wrestling by competing in the Midwest Super Regional Championships this Friday (Feb. 24) and Saturday (Feb. 25) at the University of Indianapolis.

Competing for the Cobras this weekend will be Frank Velez, Dylan Barrett, RaSean McArthur, Bret Shurina, Jacob Haydock, Jordon Tague, Jamal Lackey, Jordon Garlow, Robert Parland, and Tyvon Leacock.

Velez heads into the Regional Championships holding a 9-11 record and is currently ranked 11th in the region. The Coker 125 pounder was ranked as high as 7th in the Super Region Two rankings. At 133 pounds, Dylan Barrett comes into this weekend's competition holding a 4-9 record and is ranked 10th in the regional rankings.

RaSean McArthur will represent the Navy and Gold at 141 pounds and currently holds a record of 4-5. Next, is Bret Shurina at 149 pounds. Shurina has recorded a 9-12 record this season with two falls and is tabbed 10th in Super Region Two. At 157 pounds, the Cobras will have Jacob Haydock competing who holds a 2-2 record.

Jordon Tague will be wrestling at 165 pounds this weekend and heads into competition with a 9-4 record. Tague is ranked 8th in the latest Super Region Two rankings and is riding a four match win streak into the regional championships. Jamal Lackey will represent Coker at 174 pounds. Lackey is ranked 9th in the region and has accumulated a 10-6 record with half of victories coming by way of fall.

At 184 pounds, Jordon Garlow will take the mat this weekend ranked 9th in the region. Garlow has recorded a 10-8 record and leads the team in pins with six. Robert Parland will compete at 197 pounds followed by Tyvon Leacock at 285 pounds. Parland is ranked 9th in the region and has built up a team-best 11 wins this season. Leacock is ranked 10th in the region and holds a 3-1 record.
