Cobras Ready to Bring in New Year with Coker Duals

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College wrestling team is ready to bring in the New Year with the Coker Duals on Friday (Jan. 6). The Cobras will take on Rinehardt University at 11 a.m. and Shorter University at 3 p.m. Video and live stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com. Coker heads into the Coker Duals with two wrestlers ranked in the Super Region Two. Sophomore Frank Velez is ranked sixth at 125 pounds with a 7-5 record. Velez has developed a knack for grinding out tough wins with four decisions on the year. He has also collected one fall this season.

Senior Robert Parland is the second Cobra ranked in Super Region Two rankings coming in at seventh at 197 pounds. He has put together a 7-4 record thus far highlighted with three major decisions and one fall.

Coker will also be led by Rashad Cunningham who boasts a perfect 7-0 record with two falls this season. In addition, the Cobras will lean on a trio of eight win wrestlers in Jordon Garlow, Jamal Lackey, and Bret Shurina

The Shorter University Hawks compete in their first dual meet competition as they've wrestled in five-straight tournaments to begin their season. Similar to Coker, the Hawks have two wrestlers ranked in Super Region Two in Cade Kitchens (3rd, 165) and Bret Winters (7th, 285).

 

The Reinhardt University Eagles, who compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athetics (NAIA), enter the Coker Duals with a 2-3 dual meet record. Reinhardt has posted wins over Spartanburg Methodist College and Allen University.
