Cobras Wrap Up Competition at Midwest Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Coker College wrestling team wrapped up competition at the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis on Saturday (Dec. 17) and had four wrestlers collect victories throughout the day.

Frank Velez started his tournament strong with a victory in the round of 32 before dropping his next two matches at 125 pounds. The round of 32 victory came by way of a third period fall. 

After dropping his first match of the tournament, Matthew Kieta toughed out a tight 2-1 decision in the consolation bracket at 141 pounds. Jordon Garlow added to the Cobras win total by earning a quick first period fall in the consolation bracket at 184 pounds.

Robert Parland led the Cobras in the win column in the Midwest Classic with a 2-2 overall record. The Cobra 197 pounder started his tournament with a 12-4 major decision. Parland dropped his round of 16 match, but responded with a 9-5 decision in the consolations.

The Cobras will take a break during the holidays and will return to the mat on Jan. 6 when they host the Coker Duals.
