Coker's Akins Takes Fourth at NCAA DII National Championship

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Coker wrestler Austin Akins went 2-1 in the final day of competition at the NCAA DII Wrestling National Championship capturing fourth place overall.

The senior 285-pounder started the day with 4-2 decision over Southwest Minnesota State's Cole Wilson. He followed that up with a 5-3 decision over Maryville's Donnell Walker to advance to the third place match.

Akins was unable to keep the momentum going in his final match, falling to St. Cloud State's Austin Goergen in the third place match. The loss placed Akins in fourth overall, the highest finish in Coker wrestling history at the NCAA DII Wrestling National Championship.

Akins' season comes to an end with a record of 24-13, and he is Coker's first-ever wrestling All-American.
