Three Cobras Advance to Day Two of Midwest Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, IND.  – The Coker Cobras had a solid showing during the first day of competition at the Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Indianapolis on Saturday (Dec. 19). 

Three Cobras; Jordon Tague, Derrick Nelson and Charlie Huff, have advanced to day two of the tournament and are guaranteed to place in the top eight.

Tague went undefeated in the first day of competition, winning all three of his matches at the 149-pound weight class. He picked up two wins by fall and then had a 9-2 decision in the quarterfinals. He will be back in action on Sunday (Dec. 20) in the semifinals against No. 3 Nic Goebel of the University of Finlay.

Nelson finished day one with a 3-1 record, suffering his lone loss of the day in the quarterfinals of the 133-pound weight class. Nelson had a 6-0 decision, an 11-3 major decision and a 17-6 major decision. He will be back in action in the consolation round against Chandler Minnard of Ashland University. 

Huff went 4-1 on the day in the 125-pound division with a 4-2 sudden victory, a 10-8 sudden victory, a 6-3 decision and a 6-4 decision. He will return to the mat on Sunday in the consolation round against Sebastian Vidika of Ashland University.

The Cobras had several other wrestlers that picked up wins with Derrick Booth going 3-2 at the 174-pounds and Shabo Gorial also going 3-2 on the day at 157-pounds. Curtis Harris went 2-2 at 141-pounds, with Luis Peguero and Austin Akins each picking up a win at 184 and 285-pounds respectively.

Tague, Nelson and Huff will wrap-up competition at the Midwest Classic on Sunday. Matches begin at 10 a.m. with live coverage on www.cokercobras.com.
