Wrestling to Travel to Newberry Duals

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker wrestling will travel to the Newberry Duals to compete on Sunday (Dec. 13). They will wrestle Cumberland, Spartanburg Methodist and Brewton-Parker in dual matches.

The Cobras last dual action came in the form of a 35-6 home win over Belmont Abbey. Charlie Huff scored a decisive 17-7 major decision at 125 and Derrick Nelson followed up with a 15-0 tech fall win at 133. Sophomore Curtis Harris picked up a 9-4 decision at 141 pounds and Rashad Cunningham gutted out a 5-3 win scoring a takedown in the final minute of the match at 149 pounds. Shabo Gorial continued the streak picking up a decision at 157 pounds in a high-scoring affair 16-11. Derrick Booth would pick right back up at 174 pounds with a 4-1 decision. Sophomore Luis Peguero scored a big 17-0 tech fall win at 184, while Temaris Dixon was credited with a win by forfeit at 197. Austin Akins closed out the match with a 7-3 decision at heavyweight.

Cumberland comes into the match with a 3-3 overall record and a 1-0 mark in the Mid-South Conference. The Bulldogs dropped a close one to UNC Pembroke 26-21 on Nov. 21 at the Wolfpack Duals and most recently defeated Limestone 37-12.

Spartanburg Methodist comes into the event with an 0-4 overall record. The Pioneers have competed against UNC Pembroke and Anderson on the year.

The match against Cumberland begins at 9:00 a.m.
