Nine Cobras Place at King Open

BRISTOL, TENN.- Nine Coker wrestlers placed in their respective weight classes at the King Open on Sunday (Nov. 22). All who placed were within the top four of each weight class.

Senior Charlie Huff placed second at 125 pounds, posting a 3-1 mark for the day. Huff won his matches by fall, decision and major decision respectively before losing in overtime 5-3 in the finals. Fellow senior Derrick Nelson placed third at 133 pounds, going 5-1 on the day. Two of his wins came by fall, one by tech fall and one sudden victory.

Junior RaSean McArthur placed third in the 141 pound weight class, posting a 3-1 record for the day. In winning third, he defeated fellow Cobra Curtis Harris on tiebreakers 7-6. Harris, a sophomore, went 4-2 on the day and picked up one win by major decision and one by fall.

Freshman Jordan Tague placed third at 149, posting a 4-1 mark and picking up one win by fall. Fellow freshman Shabo Gorial finished in third place at 157 pounds, going 3-1 on the day and picking up two wins by fall.

Senior Zach Dicus placed fourth at 165, going 3-2 and winning his first two matches by fall. At 174, senior Derrick Booth placed second, going 2-1. He won his first by fall and fell in the championship match by decision 6-4. At heavyweight, senior Austin Akins placed second, posting a 3-1 mark on the day. Akins won his first bout by fall and fell only in the championship match by decision 4-1.

The team will hit the mats again on when they welcome Belmont Abbey on Dec. 2. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
