Cobras Fall to Pioneers, 80-75

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team lost a tough 80-75 SAC game to Tusculum on Saturday (Jan. 25) in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.  With the loss the Cobras fall to 9-7 on the year, and 7-5 in conference play.

Turnovers and fouls led to a 40-30 deficit for the Cobras at halftime.  The Cobras turned over the ball 12 times in the first 20 minutes of action, that led to eight points for the Pioneers.  Tusculum also saw the charity stripe 17 times in the first half, and connected on 14 of them.

In the second half Coker would battle back to dwindle the Pioneers lead to just four points after back-to-back trifectas from Hailey Yohn and Kelley Godbout.  However, time was not on their side as Tusculum kept the slight advantage with just seconds remaining.  The one possession game would turn into two, after Shynese Whitner connected on a pair of free throws to make it an 80-75 game with just 16 seconds left.  Coker would attempt two more shots in the waning moments, but could not connect as time went on to expire.

Tanesha Stenson led the Cobras with 19 points and nine rebounds.  Heidrun Kristmundsdottir would chip in 13 points and nine boards, followed by Godbout and Yohn who each netted 11.

Coker will hit the road for the next competition, as they travel to Wingate on Wednesday (Jan. 29).  Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m.
