Cobras Tame Tornados, 78-51

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team started off the new year with a 78-51 win over Brevard College on Saturday (Jan. 4) at the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.  With the win the Cobras up their record to 6-4 on the year, and 4-2 in SAC play.

The first half was tight as both teams exchanged buckets in the first 20 minutes, but Coker would take a slight 34-33 lead into the locker room.

Brevard however, would score first at the start of the second half to take their first and only lead of the game.  The lead was short lived, as Coker would answer with a 21-4 run to take a 55-39 lead with just under ten minutes left.  The lead was too much for the Tornados to overcome, as Coker would go on to preserve the double-digit victory.

Tanesha Stenson led all scorers with 23 points, while pulling down six boards and collecting six steals.  Kelley Godbout was next for the Cobras with 13 points, followed by Priscilla Fenty with 11 and Jasmine Evans with 10.  Fenty also had 11 rebounds to tally her second double-double of the year.

Coker will host Queens University of Charlotte on Wednesday (Jan. 8) in a SAC competition.  Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
