HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's basketball team defeated Converse College (0-22, 0-18) 80-51 on Saturday (Feb. 16) in Conference Carolinas action.  The win improves the Cobras to 14-10 on the year, and 10-8 in league play.

Angie Lawrence led all scorers on Saturday, with 18-points in the competition.  Lawrence has scored 18-points in her last two games.  Amber Lau was second on the scoring list with 16-points, followed by Theresa Jackson-Henderson with a season high 14 and three blocks.  Jackson-Henderson and Autumn Lau both logged the team high nine rebounds.

Coker took control of the game right away when they went on a 14-4 run within the first six minutes of the competition.  The Cobras stayed in attack mode and proceeded to take a commanding 43-23 lead into the locker room.

The second half proved to be more competitive, as Coker outscored the Valkyries by just nine points in the final 20-minutes.  However, a 20-point first half cushion allowed Coker to record a 29-point victory.

Coker dominated in almost every aspect of the game.  The Cobras shot nearly 48-percent from the floor and 40-percent from deep.  They also collected 44 total rebounds, including 17 offensive boards.  Coker scored 40-points in the paint, and created 26-points off of 19-converse turnovers.  Nine different Cobras scored during the competition, including 34 bench points.

Coker will hope to take their momentum into Wednesday's (Feb. 20) home game against Pfeiffer University.  The Cobras will be looking to split the regular season series with the Falcons, after losing their first match-up in January.  Tip-off will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
