Coker Men's Track and Field Sets the Tone for 2017-18 Season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. The Coker College men's track and field team opened their 2017-18 season at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic on Saturday Dec. 2. 

Tony McElveen Jr. led the way for the Cobras in the men's 60-meter preliminary race, with a 15th-place finish overall and first in his heat, in the time of 6.96 seconds. This sets a new Coker record, beating his previous mark by .03 seconds.

McElveen also raced the men's 200-meter, finishing 19th in a time of 22.87 seconds. This time  missed his personal-best, and program record by .02 seconds. Sage Lilly also competed in the men's 200-meter race, finishing 24th in 23.06 seconds.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Richelieu Valery finished 11th overall to move into third place in Coker records with a time of 8.62 seconds. Derrian Moreau followed closely at the 8.69 mark.

The Navy and Gold also struck for seventh out of 19 in the 4x4 400-meter race with the time of 3:28.64.

Kace Faulkner set two new Coker records in the shot put and weight throw with distances of 10.96 meters and 11.59 meters respectively.

The Coker College men's track and field program's next event will be at the Art & Linda Maillet UNC Open in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday Jan 13 at 9:30 a.m.
