Indians Sneak Past Cobras in SAC Doubleheader

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team fell to the visiting Catawba College Indians on Wednesday (Mar. 30) in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. Catawba won the opening game 2-0, then turned around to take game two, 2-1. 

In game one, Ashley Gallman and Allyson High picked up the two Coker hits. Gallman going 1-for-2 with a double and High went 1-for-3.

Augusta Jackson was tagged with the loss. She surrendered two runs on nine hits in a complete game effort.

In game two, both teams were deadlocked at zero going into the seventh inning. The Indians plated two runs in the top half of the seventh to take a 2-0 lead. After drawing a walk and reaching on an error, there were runners on first and second with Riley Morris coming to the plate. She singled to right field to load the bases for Gallman. Gallman roped a singled into the left field to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, the Coker comeback would go no further, as back-to-back strikeouts left the final at 2-1 in favor of Catawba.

Gallman led the way once again, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Mindy North and Morris picked up hits as well.

Taylor Forehand was hit with the loss. She gave up two runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday as they host the visiting Tusculum College Pioneers in a SAC doubleheader.
