Cobras Top Lions in Straight Sets

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-22) sweep over Emmanuel College on Saturday (Apr. 1) afternoon and improved their record to 12-8 on the season.

The Cobras opened up the first set with a 6-1 run and seemed to be cruising before the Lions roared back to tie the score at 19, forcing a Coker timeout. After the timeout, Coker closed out the set with six straight points to win 25-19. Both teams battled it out in a hard-fought second set before the Cobras surged past the Lions with the final six points to take the frame. In the third set, Emmanuel looked to be pulling away with a 17-13 lead. However, the Cobras closed the match on a dominant 12-5 run to pick up the sweep.

Artur Cabral led the attack with a game-high 15 kills, while also dropping in six services aces. Gabriel Castro was the other Cobra with double-digit kills with 13, and Stephen Porras dished out 31 assists. Defensively, Gary Baker led the Navy and Gold with 11 digs.

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Apr. 4) for a home matchup against Barton at 7 p.m.
