Cobras Battle, Fall to No. 14 Penn St.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Coker College men's volleyball team battled, but eventually fell to No. 14 Penn St. 3-1 (22-25, 16-25, 25-22, 14-25) Saturday (Jan. 28) night.

Trailing two sets to none, the Cobras propelled themselves back into the match with a 25-22 third set victory. Coker and Penn St. exchanged blows in the third set until the Cobras held a slight 23-22 advantage.

With the match on the line, the Cobras responded by tallying the final two points for the set victory. Two clutch kills from Devion Whetstone sealed the third game victory.

Joao Victor Santos led the Navy and Gold offensively with a season-best 19 kills. In addition, Luca Berger (9 kills, .467 kill percentage) and Devion Whetstone (7 kills, .462 kill percentage) contributed to the Cobras attack.

On the defensive side of the ball, Devion Whetstone collected three total blocks and Gary Baker tallied eight digs.

The Cobras will return to action on Friday, Feb. 3 when they host Belmont Abbey at 7 p.m.
