Cobras Eager to Take on Penn St. in State College

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team is eager to take on the Nittany Lions at Penn State tomorrow (Jan. 28) night in their toughest competition thus far in the 2017 season. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m. Video and stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras enter tomorrow's matchup as one of two teams in the NCAA Division I-II level that is undefeated. Ohio State comes in as the second undefeated team in the nation with a 7-0 record.

Coker has accumulated a 3-0 overall record to begin the season with victories over St. Andrews (3-0), Belmont Abbey (3-0), and North Greenville (3-1). Statistically, the Navy and Gold have picked up where they left off last season by coming in at fourth in the nation in aces per set, averaging 1.90.

Individually, Joao Victor Santos has led the Cobras on the offensive end with a team-high 40 kills. Freshman Luca Berger has been a force on the court as well with 15 kills, eight total blocks, and a team-best .462 kill percentage. In addition, Berger was recently named Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Honorable Mention Freshman of the Week for his impressive start with the Cobras.

Penn St. heads into tomorrow's contest with a 3-4 overall record. The Nittany Lions are led offensively by Chris Nugent who has recorded 98 kills. Defensively, Penn St. has been receiving solid play from Kevin Gear who has racked up 27 total blocks.
