Coker Men’s Volleyball to Host 2016 Invitational Tournament

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team will be back in action on Friday and Saturday (Mar. 4-5) as a part of the Coker Invitational Tournament taking place in the DeLoach Center. 

On Friday, the Cobras will square off against Lees-McRae at 5 p.m., then turn around and take on the visiting Flying Fleet of Erskine College at 7 p.m. Saturday will see Coker pitted against the Battlers of Alderson-Broaddus at 11 a.m. and a rematch against Erskine at 3 p.m.

The Cobras come into the four-match tilt led by the duo of Joao Victor Santos and Artur Cabral. Santos, who was named Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Freshman of the Week during the week of Feb. 22-28, has belted a team-high 128 kills so far this season. In his last three matches, he is averaging just over 25 kills per match. Cabral, who was named the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. Player of the Month for February, has 122 kills so far this season and a team-high .59 service aces per set. His service aces per set average is good enough for fourth in NCAA Division I-II. As a team, the Cobras are first in NCAA DI-DII in service aces per set with 2.39 service aces per set.

Lee-McRae comes into the tournament with a 0-13 overall record

Erskine makes the trip to Hartsville sporting a 9-3 overall record.

The Battlers of Alderson-Broaddus have a 5-6 record this season.

Matches will begin Friday (Mar. 4) at Coker's DeLoach Center. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for all Coker faculty, staff and students. Further information about this weekend's tournament can be found here
