Coker Men’s Volleyball Falls to Barton

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's volleyball team fell the visiting Barton College Bulldogs 3-0 on Tuesday (Jan. 19); snapping a three-match winning streak. 

The first set was one for the books. Neither team could pull away throughout the set, with the most consecutive points scored being three. The largest lead of the set was when Barton led 20-17, however the Cobras would respond winning six of the next seven points to take a 23-21 lead. The Bulldogs clawed their way back into the match, tying it up at 24-24. After trading points, it would be a 3-0 Barton run after being down 29-30 that would propel them to a 32-30 first set win.

The Bulldogs continued the wave of momentum throughout the match, winning the next two sets 25-16 and 25-21 and winning the match 3-0.

Joao Victor Santos led the attack offensively for the Navy and Gold, collecting 11 kills. Artur Cabral and Leshon Alexander finished with seven and five kills each, while Luke Hansen dished out 22 assists and picked up seven digs.

The Cobras will go on a brief road trip to Ohio State University and Bluefield College on Jan. 22-23 before returning home on Tuesday (Jan. 26) to take on St. Andrews University.
