Cobras Come Out Victorious in Battle with Warriors

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's tennis team came out victorious in a battle over the visiting Southern Wesleyan University Warriors 6-3 Friday (Feb. 16) afternoon in non-conference action. The Cobras improved to 4-2 with the victory. 

The Navy and Gold opened up the day with one victory in doubles play. Hunter Horton and Justus Lehman captured an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles to improve to 5-1 on the year. 

Needing victories, the Cobras stepped up in singles action recording five of six wins in singles matches. Mark Watt earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles and Horton captured a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 spot. Next, Felix Schweyer won a gritty 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 match at No. 3 singles, followed by a 6-1, 7-6 victory from Henrik Hellbe at No. 4 singles. Finally, Justus Lehman earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles. Watt improved to 5-1 in singles matches at the No. 1 spot with his victory this afternoon. Horton, Lehman, and Schweyer improved their singles record to 4-2 with their victories this afternoon. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Feb. 22 when they travel to Johnson C. Smith for a 2 p.m. match.
