No. 36 Cobras Throttle Bears in 8-1 SAC Victory

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The No. 36 nationally ranked Coker men's tennis team picked up a convincing 8-1 victory over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Saturday (Mar. 22) in South Atlantic Conference action. The win moves the Cobras to 6-1 in SAC competition.

The Cobras jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead taking the doubles portion of the match with scores of 8-4, 8-0 and 8-5 in No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively. The wins would continue to flow as Andre Staab and James Corfield picked up identical 6-0, 6-0 straight-set victories at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. Tom Sizeland captured a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while William Marrafao won a 6-2, 6-2 match at No. 3 singles. Martin Moncayo rounded out the wins for the Navy and Yellow with his 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.

Staab, Moncayo and Sizeland each improved to 7-0 in conference play. Sizeland is also on a 10-match winning streak.

The Cobras will return to action next Friday (Mar. 28) when they host the Lions of Mars Hill University in a SAC matchup. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Coker tennis courts.
