Top Seeded Coker Ready to Defend Conference Carolinas Tournament Title

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's soccer team will begin their quest for another Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship on Tuesday (Oct. 30). The top seeded Cobras will host the No. 8 seed Queens University of Charlotte Royals in the quarterfinals of the tournament at 7 p.m. at the Coker Soccer Field. The match will be video streamed online at www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras (12-3-1, 8-1-1 Conf. Carolinas) captured their second consecutive Conference Carolinas regular season title when they defeated Limestone College 2-1 in their final regular season match on Saturday (Oct. 27). Junior Akeem Prendes put home the game-winner for Coker with a header in the 74th minute of the match. Senior Noah Lascell was the Cobras other goal scorer.

Tuesday's match will be the second time in as many years that Coker and Queens have squared off in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. Last season, the Cobras shutout the Royals, 3-0. In their first meeting this season, Coker defeated Queens 2-1 on Oct. 20.

The Cobras, currently ranked No. 10 in the NSCAA Southeast Region coaches' poll, have advanced to the championship game of the conference tournament each of the last three years, winning the tournament twice (2009, 2011).

The winner of Tuesday's match will advance to the semifinals on Friday against the winner of the #4 seed Barton vs. the #5 seed North Greenville.
