Coker Men's Soccer to Battle for First Place on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – It will be a battle for supremacy on Saturday (Oct. 27) when the Coker men's soccer team takes the field against Limestone College. The Cobras enter the match in second place in the Conference Carolinas standings with a league record of 7-1-1, while Limestone is currently in first at 8-0-1. The match will be video streamed live online and can be viewed at www.cokercobras.com.

Regardless of the outcome, both teams are assured spots in the conference tournament that begins on Tuesday (Oct. 30), but a Coker win would give the Cobras a share of the league's regular season championship.

The Cobras have not lost a match since Sept. 29 and are unbeaten at home since Sept. 4. Seniors Niko Tirkkonen, Carlos Recinos and James Sweeney lead the Cobras. Tirkkonen leads the team in scoring with nine goals, while Recinos leads the team in assists with seven. Sweeney continues to be a defensive juggernaut in the goal. He leads the conference in save percentage (.828) and goals against average (0.71).

Limestone enters the match having suffered a 1-0 loss to Wingate in their most recent match.

Not only is Saturday the last game of the regular season, but also senior night for the Cobras.  The Coker men's soccer seniors will be recognized at halftime of the women's game, which begins at 4:30 p.m.  The men's game is scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m.
