Jackson Dethrones Royals With Two Goals In 2-1 Victory

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Forward Daniel Jackson scored two goals for the Cobras, as they defeated Queens University of Charlotte 2-1 on Saturday (Oct. 20) night in a Conference Carolinas match.  The Coker men's soccer team improves to 11-3 on the year, with a conference record of 7-1.

The first half of competition saw very little action, with Coker (1) and Queens (2) combining for a total of three shots.  When the clock struck the 45-minute mark, the scoreboard was all even at 0-0.

Just 10-minutes into the second half, Matt Taylor chipped a perfectly placed ball over the Queens defense to find Jackson who knocked it past the goalkeeper for his first goal of the night.

The Cobras struck again, when they took advantage of a Queens foul. Off the free kick, forward Carlos Recinos connected with Jackson on a header that bumped into the back right corner of the Royals cage.  With only 25-minutes left the Cobras took a 2-0 lead.

The Royals scored their lone goal in the 88-minute, when Erick Suarez took a penalty kick that just barely evaded Cobra goalkeeper James Sweeney to the back right corner.

Time was not on the Royals side however, as the Cobra possession game controlled the remaining two minutes to preserve the 2-1 win for Coker.

The men's soccer team will hit the road on Tuesday (Oct. 23) for their next match, when they travel to face Mount Olive.  The game is scheduled to commence at 7 p.m.
