Knights Use Strong Second Half to Knock Off Cobras

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference matchup 14-9 to the No. 18 nationally-ranked Lynn University Fighting Knights on Monday afternoon.

The Cobras came out on fire in the opening quarter netting five goals in the opening 15 minutes. Patrick Timothee got things started with his first goal of the season just two minutes into the game. After a responding goal by Lynn, the Cobras scored twice in a 90-second span off of goals from Garrett Kilgore and Shane Wilson. After a goal by the Fighting Knights to cut the lead to one, the Navy and Gold reeled off two more goals. Wilson picked up his second goal of the day via the assist of Mike Martiello; which was the second time the two connected, the latter goal was scored by Kilgore, also his second goal of the afternoon.

The Fighting Knights lived up to their name, scoring three unanswered goals in the second quarter to tie the game up at 5-5 as the two teams departed for halftime.

Lynn continued their solid play on both ends of the field, outscoring the Cobras 4-0 in the third quarter to take a 9-5 lead going into the final 15 minutes of play.

The Cobras finally got back on the board thanks to a man-up goal scored by Kilgore, closing the deficit to just three. However, Lynn proceeded to outscore Coker 5-3 in the final 10 minutes to take home the 14-9 win.

Wilson led the attack for the Cobras with four goals. Kilgore also had a multi-goal game, netting three, while Tim Wright and Timothee scored one goal each. Martiello facilitated the offense, dishing out five assists.

The Cobras will go on a brief two-game road trip, beginning on Saturday (Mar. 5) when they open up South Atlantic Conference play with a matchup against Lenoir-Rhyne. Opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
