Coker Falls to Emmanuel in Offensive Shootout

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team fell to the visiting Emmanuel College Lions 107-105 in an offensive shootout Tuesday (Nov. 14) night in the DeLoach Center. 

The Cobras began the game clicking on the offensive end and outscoring Emmanuel 10-2. Jumpers from Larry Cooper, Demarco Jackson, and a shot from beyond the three point arch from Donte Samuels gave the Navy and Gold an early advantage. Next, Emmanuel battled back from the early deficit and traded scores with Coker for a 58-56 lead at halftime for the Lions. 

Emmanuel jumped on Coker early in the second half and pulled out to a 69-59 lead. The Lions continued to hold their lead in the second half of action and took a 99-93 lead over the Cobras with four minutes remaining in regulation. Shortly after, Jake Barrett provided a spark for Coker with a three ball and Marquis Green followed Barrett with a layup to bring the Cobras within one. 

Barrett answered once again down the stretch by delivering a layup off a fast break to even the score at 105-105 with under 15 seconds remaining. However, Emmanuel scored on their final possession for the 107-105 victory. 

Barrett led the way for the Navy and Gold, pouring in 19 points on 8-13 shooting. Cooper chipped in 16 points and added a team-best eight rebounds, while Green finished with 14 points and three rebounds off the bench. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Nov. 18) when they host Limestone at 4 p.m.
