Five Score in Double Figures as Cobras Take Down Tornados

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team picked up an 83-53 win on Saturday (Jan. 28) over the visiting Brevard College Tornados in a South Atlantic Conference matchup.

Back-to-back made threes by JaQuez Motley pushed the Cobras ahead 14-8 with 13:36 left in the first half. Coker continued to hold the lead, taking a 10-point lead with 2:47 left in the opening frame. A 7-3 advantage in favor of Coker to close out the half left the Navy and Gold out in front 41-27 as the two sides departed for the locker rooms at half.

Brevard outscored Coker 19-10 in the opening 10 minutes, closing the deficit to five points (51-46). A 13-1 response by the Cobras put them back out in front by double figures, 64-47. The Navy and Gold outscored Brevard 19-6 in the final six minutes to take home the 83-53 home win.

Career-highs by Larry Cooper, Demarco Jackson and LaDarius Williams led the way for the Cobras. Cooper finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. 12 points by Jackson and Williams were both career-highs, along with seven and six rebounds. JaQuez Motley poured in 11 points, nine of which came from three. Roman Hall rounded out the scoring attack for Coker, notching 11 points off the bench.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 1) when they welcome the visiting Queens University of Charlotte Royals. Opening tip is set for 8 p.m.
