Coker's Season Comes to End with 80-71 Loss to Barton

WILSON, N.C. – Julian Nelson scored a game-high 25 points to pace the Cobras in their 80-71 loss to Barton College on Monday (March 4) in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas men's basketball tournament.

Coker jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first two minutes of play, but over the next four minutes Barton battled back and took the lead, 17-15, and never looked back. The Cobras were able to trim the lead over time, trailing 33-30 with two minutes left in the half. The Bulldogs did not let up and took a 42-35 lead into the locker room. 

The Cobras continued to fight in the second half, but they were unable to crack the Bulldog lead. They were able to trim the lead to just seven, 68-61, with six and a half minutes remaining.  Barton kept Coker at bay over the final minutes to take home the 80-71 victory.

Along with Nelson's game-high 25 points, Andrew Morris knocked down 20 points, 18 of which came from 3-point range, and grabbed five rebounds. Sharod Williams finished the night with 12 points and three assists.

As a team, Coker shot 45.3 percent from the floor and 93.3 percent from the charity stripe. 

The Cobras close out the 2013 season with a record of 13-14 overall and 10-10 in league play.
