Late Inning Surge Lifts Coker Past St. Augustine's 2-1

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to take home a 2-1 victory over the St. Augustine's Falcons in collegiate baseball action on Monday (Feb. 9) afternoon.

It was a pitching dual from start to finish with six Cobra hurlers holding the Falcons to just one run on six hits in nine innings of work.

After three scoreless innings, St. Augustine's broke the stalemate with a solo homer in the top of the fourth. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Falcons until the bottom of the seventh when Anthony Scaccia led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Will Winslow then stepped to the plate and belted a triple to deep center field, scoring Scaccia and tying the game at one. Dustin Russell followed with an RBI single up the middle to give the Cobras a 2-1 lead and the eventual win.

Ryan Milner (1-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just one hit and had four strikeouts. Korbin Causey (1) got the save with an inning of hitless and scoreless baseball. He also had a strikeout.

Russell and Winslow led the Cobras at the plate. Both hitters were 2-for-3 with an RBI. Winslow had a triple and Russell picked up a stolen base as well.

The Cobras will return to action on Friday (Feb. 13) in the first game of a three-game South Atlantic Conference series against Wingate University at home. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
