Cobras to Host Bears in Three-Game SAC Series

HARTSVILLE S.C. – The Coker Cobras will host the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears for a South Atlantic Conference three-game series on Saturday (Mar. 8) and Sunday (Mar 9).

The Cobras are 10-6 overall and 7-1 when playing at home. Coker is coming off a 5-1 win over St. Andrews. Fico Kondla, Sammy Song, and Ernie Kirkwood lead the team, offensively, in both runs and batting average. Kondla and Song have both scored 13 runs on the season and are batting .333 and .345, respectively. Kirkwood has scored 12 runs with a .328 batting average. Kondla has also boasts 14 stolen bases this season.

On the mound, Matt Prosser (3-1) and Ben Brown (2-1) lead the Cobras. In 29.1 innings, Prosser has thrown 26 strikeouts, allowed only 20 hits and 10 runs, and has a 1.53 ERA. Brown has pitched 28.2 innings, allowing 25 hits and15 runs, but has thrown 14 strikeouts with a 2.51 ERA.

The Bears are 4-16 overall, 1-10 in the SAC. They come to Coker after a 2-6 loss to Brevard. Leading Lenoir-Rhyne offensively are Brandon Walker, David Newcomer, Ivan Veites, and Brantly Rumford. Walker and Newcomer both have seven runs on the season. Rumford and Veites have the best batting averages, .359 and .347, respectively. On the hill, Thomas St. Clair leads with 19 strikeouts and a 2.55 ERA in 17.2 innings.
