Cobras Split SAC Doubleheader with Bears

HARTSVILLE, S.C – The Coker baseball team split its SAC doubleheader with Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday (Mar. 9). The Bears took game one 2-0, while the Cobras took game two 5-4.

Matthew Prosser (3-2) suffered his second loss of the season in game one. He allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in seven innings on the bump.

T.J. Giczkowski and Shea Bell registered Coker's only two hits in game one, with each going 1-for-three.

In game two, Coker would trail 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Cobras bats would come alive as they plated four runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Bears would scrape together two runs in the top of the sixth, but Andrew Goot would close the door on any possible comeback as he picked up his third save of the season.

Ben Brown (3-1) picked up the win for Coker. He allowed four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts in five innings of work.

Ernie Kirkwood led the Coker offense going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Sammy Song also went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and one run scored, while Jack Leech went a perfect 2-for-2 on the day.

The Cobras will return to action in a non-conference game on the road on Tuesday (Mar. 11) against Claflin. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
