Hartsville, SC- The second meeting of the season between the Coker Cobras and the Barton Bulldogs turned out to be much like the first in terms of the final score, 3-0 in favor of Coker. The Cobras (5-7, 4-1 CVAC) defeated Barton (3-7, 1-4 CVAC) 30-24, 30-28 and 30-15 in CVAC volleyball action Wednesday night at Coker’s Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.

 

Game one saw Barton give Coker a little trouble and forced some unnecessary errors that led to Bulldog points, but in the end the Cobras prevailed.

 

The real game of the night was game two. Barton jumped out to an early lead 4-1, but Coker managed to battle back to within one before the Bulldogs pulled away again. Coker regained their composure and tied the game at 9-9, but Barton would not back down, giving the Cobras a run for their money. In game two there were 13 ties and seven lead changes before Coker prevailed with the 30-28 victory.

 

In game three the Cobras came out fired up and jumped all over Barton early and often, giving the Bulldogs no chance at sending the match to a fourth game.

 

Margaret Madison led the Coker offense with 11 kills, three aces and chipped in two blocks. Megan Haupt finished with eight kills and three aces, while Tara Nelson gave the Cobras 28 assists. Kelsey Carlson and Natalie Schembra each had 10 digs in the match.

 

For Baton, Keauna Vinson had 10 kills, nine digs and two solo blocks, while Kyle Petty had nine kills. Hallie Fuller had 25 assists and three aces and Michelle Walker gave the Bulldogs 12 digs.

 

Coker will prepare to host Belmont Abbey Friday night at 6:30 p.m., while Barton hosts Queens University also on Friday night.
