Coker Women Blank Lees-McRae 9-0

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Coker women's tennis team shutout the Lees-McRae Bobcats with a 9-0 win on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Cobras to a perfect 3-0 in Conference Carolinas play.

Coker opened the match with a 3-0 sweep of the Bobcats in doubles play, including a nearly flawless 8-1 victory by Cora Berna (Spain) and Kayla Meermans (Pelion, S.C.) at No. 2.

The ladies followed up their superb doubles play by winning all six singles matches as well. Alyssa Blanchard (Columbia, S.C.) got the win at No. 1 with scores of 6-0, 6-4, while Berna won at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3. Stephanie Medley (Sumter, S.C.) had a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win at No. 3 and Faith Baxley (Mullins, S.C.) came from behind to get the win at No. 4 with scores of 4-6, 6-3 and 10-2. Meermans and Brittanny Yando (Sumter, S.C.) both won by default at No. 5 and No. 6.

The women will continue to play away from Coker as they travel to Wingate University for their next match on Friday at 11 a.m.
