HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women’s tennis team picked up their second win in as many matches on Friday afternoon at the Coker College Tennis Courts, defeating Newberry College 6-3. The non-conference victory improves the Lady Cobras to 2-4 overall, while Newberry falls to 0-2.

Coker began the match, with a pair of wins at No.1 and No. 2 doubles. Alyssa Blanchard (Columbia, S.C.) and Stephanie Medley (Sumter, S.C.) earned the 8-4 win at No. 1, while Kendall Sigmon (Hilton Head, S.C.) and Stephanie Harrelson (Bishopville, S.C.) picked up the 8-w win at No.2. Newberry’s first win of the day came at No. 3 doubles, with Sierra Hoover and Lindsey Kyzer winning 8-4.

The Lady Cobras capped off the match with wins at No. 2- No. 5 singles. Medley won at No. 2 6-3, 6-3, followed by Sigmon’s win at No. 3 6-3, 6-2. Brittany Yando (Sumter, S.C.) got her first win of the day at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win and Harrelson was victorious at No. 5, 6-1, 6-3.

Newberry’s Autise Mortimer defeated Blanchard at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 and Sierra Hoover got her second win of the day at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

The Lady Cobras get right back to action on Saturday, when they host the Erskine College Flying Fleet in their Conference Carolinas opening match at 1:00 p.m.
