Spartanburg, S.C. - The Coker College women's tennis team opened their conference play with a convincing win over Converse College.  The Lady Cobras came out firing with an early lead picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.  Rachel Lamar and Alyssa Blanchard defeated Yuldasheva and Mayer 8-1. Lindsay Crighton and Cassidy Spencer fought to win 8-5 over Cantey and English. Ashley Pace and Kendall Sigmon were narrowly defeated 8-6. 

With the Lady Cobras up 2-1 going into singles action Lamar, Blanchard and Stephanie Medley quickly secured the match for the Cobras. Lamar defeated Yuldasheva 6-1, 6-0. Blanchard rolled her opponent, Lindsay Kelly 6-1, 6-0 and Medley defeated Cantey 6-1, 6-2. Rounding out the match for the Cobras were three hard fought singles wins. Pace defeated Mayer 6-2, 6-3. Spencer trailed in her second set 2-5 and fought back to beat Wilkes 6-2, 7-6. Crighton finished out the match for the Lady Cobras with a 7-5, 7-5 victory.

The Lady Cobras will return home to take the court Sunday, Feb. 15, as they take on neighboring Columbia College. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Coker College tennis facility.
