Newberry, SC- Coker women’s tennis team traveled away today to play Newberry College at 2.30pm. The doubles was easily dominated by Newberry and they rushed to an early win with Grooms and Clare beating Konopa and Schaum 8-4. Another win came for Newberry at number one doubles with Santos and Smith losing 8-5. Newberry also won the last doubles point at number two 8-6.

 

The singles proved also to be one sided but the Cobras battled well in all the singles matches. Andrea Santos opened up at number one singles and won the first set 6-3. The second set was also close but Kneider of Newberry came out on top 6-4. The match then went to a ten point tie break where Santos lost 10-7. Jen Konopa also came close to adding a singles win for the Cobras but also lost in a ten point tie break 10-3. The only win for the Cobras came at number six where the Newberry opponent defaulted due to injury.

 

This takes the Cobras to 2-5 for the current season. Their next match is against Erskine at home on the 17th March at 4.30pm.
