WILSON, NC – Coker’s tennis teams competed at the 2004-05 CVAC Individual Championships recently and brought back a title.  Doubles team of junior Neely Davis/York, SC and freshman Jill Smith/Concord, NC won number three doubles championship and freshman Ashley Pace/Clinton, SC finished second at number six singles. 

In the first round Davis and Smith defeated Harris and Moates from Mt. Olive 8-4 and in the semifinals the duo knocked off top seeded McCullen and Phillips from Queens 8-3.  Davis and Smith continued the upsets in the final, where the defeated the second seeded Anderson tandem of Sexton and Williamson with ease, 8-2. 

Pace nearly went all the way as well before coming up short in the finals.  She defeated Pfeiffer’s Katherine Valleri 6-0, 6-1 in the first round and second seed Jennifer Phillips of Queens 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.  In the semifinal round Pace went three sets to defeat Becca Derrick of Pfeiffer 1-6, 6-2, and 7-6.  In the championship match Pace finally met her match, downed 6-0, 6-1 by Pfeiffer’s Deanna Blake.
