HARTSVILLE, S.C. – It was a textbook give-and-go play from Danielle Goerler to Jordan Roy that gave Coker the 1-0 victory over No. 10 regionally ranked Newberry College on Wednesday (Oct. 23) at the Coker Soccer Field.
The goal came in the 65th minute when Roy fed the ball up the sideline to an awaiting Goerler. Goerler was quickly surrounded by the Wolves defense, but she swiftly fed the ball to Roy who dribbled into the box and scored on the opposite corner of the Newberry keeper.
Coker's defense would then take care of the remaining 25 minutes to preserve the shutout.
Newberry landed 7-of-10 shots on goal, but Lizz Morris would save all seven shots to add to her nation leading 133 saves on the year.
Coker landed 5-of-9 shots on goal, with all five shots coming from different Cobras. Overall, Coker had eight different players with opportunities to shoot.
The Cobras will hit the road for their next competition as they travel to Tusculum this Sunday (Oct. 27) to compete in a conference match up. The game is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
